Benefits of Hearing Aids

Hearing instruments today are digital, programmable and also feature compression circuits; all work to improve the hearing impaired listener. They help to detect very soft sounds, hear conversational speech in quiet and noise and hear loud sound at a comfortable level. Hearing instruments work very well to ease the strain of listening and provide you with enhanced clarity. Although no instruments can restore your hearing to normal, they can provide exceptional benefit to your quality of life.

If you have never worn hearing instruments before, the decision to start may seem overwhelming. Your Ochsner Rush Audiologists are experts in addressing hearing loss with the latest technology to assist you in receiving maximum benefit from your hearing instruments. The recommendation by your audiologist will reflect your specific needs and requirements.

Process for Obtaining Hearing Instruments

The first step in obtaining hearing aids is to rule out any medical condition that could be causing or contributing to your hearing loss. If your audiologist determines that a medical condition is affecting your hearing, she will refer you to a physician prior to obtaining hearing instruments

A comprehensive hearing evaluation will be performed to determine if you are a good candidate to receive benefit from hearing instruments. Your audiologist will go over the results of the hearing evaluation with you and will ask detailed questions pertaining to where you experience difficulty hearing and communicating. It is vital to your success that you be as specific as possible. This will assist your audiologist in helping you select the most appropriate hearing instrument.

Some hearing instruments require a custom mold be made of your ear to ensure the best comfort, fit and sound. This will be done the day your hearing instruments are ordered. You will be scheduled for a hearing aid fitting in 7-10 days. Your hearing aid fitting include setting the hearing aids to your specific hearing loss, taking measurements to ensure the hearing instruments and working correctly and instructing you on proper use and care of the instruments. You will schedule a two week follow up appointment at this time. You will have 30 days to adjust to the hearing aids beginning after you leave this appointment.

All hearing aids require some fine-tuning. This is done in the office by your audiologist. This may include changing the volume, sound quality or other settings. You should also plan on quarterly cleaning provided at no charge during the warranty period and an annual hearing test to ensure the hearing aids are always in top condition with the best settings for your needs.

Better hearing and a better quality of life can be yours for many years with the help of the right hearing professional. Call Ochsner Rush Audiology today to schedule an appointment to discuss your options.
